Abstract
Ahead of the entry into the super-aged society, this study examines the aspects of generational conflict in the workplace and seeks empirical methods for coexistence of various generations in the workplace. For this purpose, focus group interviews were conducted with 20 employees aged 20s to 50s working in private sector companies. Data were analyzed using a qualitative research method. The result of the study showed that the study participants were experiencing generational gaps in various fields of work life, and the root cause was the difference between the socio-cultural background in which they were raised.
Due to the stark generational gap, they avoid and do not communicate with other generations in the workplace. Even they made their personal and organizational efforts to resolve generational conflict, it is revealed that there are obstacles to make the change. Nevertheless, with the recognition that they are the members of an organization working together, they understood each other and showed a willingness to adapt to the changing culture. This study suggests the need for a plan for generational solidarity in the workplace.
